Welcome to my 3rd mailing newsletter, End of November and December of 2016
I hope everyone has had a great Thanksgiving. We had a week off from braiding, but now I hope we are all excited to getting back to either starting those Christmas projects, starting a new project or just working on an existing project.
I want to apologize to those that did not know we had a few days off in November. Please take note of our hours for the rest of November and December.The remaining dates for November are:

Tuesday day November 29th,1-4,Tuesday evening 6-9
December hours: Tuesday days: Dec. 6, 13th, and 20th 1-4,
Tuesday nights same dates Dec. 6, 13th and 20th 6-9
No braiding between Christmas and New Years, which is Dec, 27th
Friday Day Braiding: Dec 2, Dec 9, Dec 16 all 11-2,
Sat all Day Braiding is Dec 10th 10-4.
No Braiding  on Fridays Dec 23rd and Dec 30th.
Either mark these days down or check this newsletter or check my calendar on my website.

I would like to get new students into our braiding group. If you can spread the word and you bring a new student to start, I will either give you a yard of wool or 3 lessons on the book for your efforts, I appreciate it so much.

I had an experience of visiting a retreat center in Kennebunk Maine. It is called The Franciscan Guest House. A really nice place. Every bedroom has their own TV, Bathroom, refrigerator, your  own heating adjustment control.
I was wondering if there were 8-18 people interested in getting together the first weekend of February to have a get together there for braiding or craft time.I do not want to infringe on the Alfred Retreat or the PA Valley Forge Braid in, so do not go if you think you can’t do both. The cost would be compatible, except those wanting private rooms. Double rooms are $60.00 per person each night. You can come Thursday to Sunday or Friday to Sunday. It is in the Famous Kennebunk Maine,  it would be in the heart of winter.  Email me at

2nd newsletter October 2016

Welcome to my 2nd mailing newsletter, Oct and November 2016
Our braiding classes are well into place. We’ve had a slow start. A few have switched to Tuesday day classes and some will switch to Friday day classes. This makes me think that Tuesday evenings are starting to be slow, therefore I am thinking in the near future I might have every other Tuesday evenings, but everyone will be notified.

The remaining dates for October are:
Tuesday day Oct 25th 1-4,Tuesday evening Oct. 25th 6-9, and Friday Oct. 28th 11-2
November Tuesday days: November 1st, 8th, 15, 1-4 no braiding Thanksgiving week the 22nd, then resuming Tuesday day again on November 29th.
November Tuesday evenings: Nov 1st. 6-9, and November 15, and November 29. Please note I did do every other Tuesday in November because of election night and because of Thanksgiving week.
Fridays days in November are: November 4th, 11th, and the 18th. no braiding on November 25th, all from 11-2.
We can all discuss about November 11th, where it’s a holiday.

Our weekend in Methuen was a huge success with over 46 participants. Pam Landry taught her first beginners class in Methuen and did an excellent job. Congrats to you Pam.
We had a huge success in our discussion on hit or miss rugs. We all learned that everyone does a hit or miss a bit different but they all come out beautiful. Some have one color wool going through the entire rug, some have 2 of the same color, some put strips in a bag and just pull them out of different bags and have no idea what color is coming out to add on to each strip. Lots of great pretty rugs.

We had an ugly wool challenge that some of us participated in and Pam Landry made this cute basket with her ugly wool which wasn’t so ugly any more.
Cathy Winships continuous rug was a big hit in Methuen as well.
Another great idea is to make a large basket and put over a foot stool.

Braiding Classes for September and October 2016

Summer has come and gone and I’m looking forward to beginning our braiding sessions again.


I will have my first braiding session on Tuesday September 27th,  evening 6-9 or daytime will be 1-4.

again on October 4th,  October 11th, October 18th, and October 25th


Friday session I can’t begin until October 7th, 11-2, October 14th, No braiding on October 21st, and then we resume on October 28th. All Friday students are welcome to come on Tuesday afternoons, if I am not having braiding on Fridays. I look forward to working and seeing you all again.

If you are receiving this announcement, you are a Rug Braider or have contacted me regarding rug braiding. Below is the Picasa album of the New England Braids 2012



This is the 9th year this event is being held to promote and preserve the art of Rug Braiding. Bringing together those interested in learning to braid, as well as enhancing the knowledge of those already familiar with this historic craft. While still working on a schedule of classes, it is important to issue this announcement in hopes of gathering the minimum of 35 people needed to go forward. Should this not occur your check will be returned in full.

Limit: 65



Dorm style accomodations $250 (2 people or more per room)

Single room is $300 -several available on a first come first serve basis.



There are 6 meals included starting with Friday evening and ending with Sunday noon.

Classes are included but materials are extra.


Only people with disabilities will be given 1st floor rooms.


  • Please make your check out to : Carol Broadbent


  • There is a cancellation fee of *$25, if you cancel after sending in your payment. If you find someone to take your place, you will be reimbursed the $25 after they send in their money.


  • Rooms will be assigned when your check is received, starting with the second floor closest to the stairs. I use the “postmark date” on your mailed Registration form for adding you to the Attendees List. Please send your check and Registration Form as soon as possible. Teachers have quotas that they won’t exceed for their classes. I am currently working on Class schedules.


  • New this year: Some Classes will be starting on Friday morning at 9 a.m. Please be on time for your classes. Teachers are expected to proceed with their classes and you will miss the beginning if you are late.


  • Accommodations are available at St Basils for an extra night of Thursday October 13th and Sunday October 16th for a nominal fee of $25(no meals included till Friday supper).


  • Sale of anything used to do “rug braiding” and “rug hooking” this year, including: wool, braid aids, braiding stand and clamps will be offered. More info will be sent prior to the event once you have registered. As space is limited, you must register with me.


  • There will be a $30 per space/table charge to sell.


  • The 3 day event is offered as a weekend package only.


  • I am unable to offer single days or classes due to restrictions by St Basils.


  • Please fill out the NE Braids Registration Form below, page 3 and return with your check.


  • Please let me know if you would like to be removed from my emails for this event.


  • I had 2 emails addresses for some people. Please let me know which is correct.

February Braiding

Night classes, Tuesday nights 6-9, on Feb 2nd, 9th, 16, 23, and 30th.

I am also offering day classes on Tuesday from 2-5 because of the cold and weather at night. Please call or text me if you are coming during the day.

Day classes on Fridays, 11-2,  February 2016 are:  5th, 12, 19 and 26.

February Saturday braiding will be on February 13th, 10-4, if the weather cooperates.

March braiding on Tuesday nights are March, 1, 8, 15, 22nd and 29th.

Friday days are on the 4th, 11th, no braiding on the 18th because of the Alfred Braid In, and then we are  back braiding on the 25th.

The Saturday braiding in March is the 2nd Sat. on March 12th from 10-4

Rug Braiding at Noble High School, North Berwick, Maine

Rug Braiding with Pam Rowan on Saturday, March 7th, 2015, 9-4, at Noble High School.
Come and braid for the day with others who will be sharing their work for viewing. 
Cost is $15.00 for the day. Bring a project you have been working on or learn to braid 
a small matt. Cost for the wool will be $20.00.
You will learn to prepare your wool, start and end your braided matt. Cost for the 
project includes the wool, tools can be borrowed from Pam Rowan or they can be 
bought. Contact Pam Rowan for cost of the other supplies.
